Hello fine friends of flesh or feather!
Let us cut to the chase - times are…not-uh so good-uh!!! I have had a lot of feelings of hopelessness lately. I don’t want to delve into that too much, but I’m sure you all have eyes and ears and can read the news. It’s easy to be affected deeply by all the awful things happening out there and to just kind of give up, but as more awfulness piles up I do feel like being positive and relentless can prevent one’s brain from traveling to dark places. I’m trying to lean into chaos and creation as an act of rebellion, both against the powers at be and my own mind! I invite you on this journey with me! Let’s all give less of a fuck of what people think of us. Be a decent human and also raise hell, in whatever way you find pleasing.
I started this drawing over the holidays and as it went on, just kept doing more and more to it, only finishing it last week. I saw a post on Bluesky (can’t recall who posted it and it is lost to the wind, my apologies!) that said a good way to improve your work is to spend an extra hour or two on a drawing you think is finished. So I did that here! Except I can not stop myself once I get started and spent about 4 extra hours on this, hehe teehee.
Ironically I recently posted on Bluesky about how much I love Don Bluth’s Thumbelina (This and The Great Mouse Detective were the films that raised me, along with a little side of A Troll in Central Park) and my strange youthful crush on Jacquimo, the swallow. Only then did I realize - oh hey that character I just drew looks a lot like Jacquimo! And this was weeks after the fact. Not sure what that means and probably shouldn’t look into it too deeply!
I’ve already started drawing this princely fellow in another drawing, and he is absolutely fun to draw. In my files, I have temporarily named him Kurpi but I’m not sure if that sticks. Any name suggestions welcome!
Additionally, I will be returning to my colored pencils soon - I have been exploring new techniques and figuring out how to make those works more saturated (the biggest challenge with colored pencils!) and have ordered some new things to assist with this. I want to make sure I’m happy with things I post in the future and not just posting for the sake of posting.
I hope you’re all hanging in out there and treating yourselves kindly! Also I may start posting about music. Byeeeeee.

I can def see the Jacquimo influence but I initially saw Howl Jenkins from “Howl’s Moving Castle” too!!
Seeing your art makes my day. Keep fighting ❤️
Love it!!!
