I have a drawing sitting on my desk in the other room, my “business room” (aka the room that quadruples as the junk room, my office, the workout room, and Shane’s piano parlour) Approximately a week ago, I did the sketch for this particular drawing on my Ipad. Then, about four days ago I started on the actual drawing, traced from the sketch onto mixed media paper. After an initial burst of work on it, I had trouble continuing. Like most folks, I have a slight addiction to the tasty blue light that emanates from THE PHONE, but if working on something I’m excited about, I’m usually able to put that wicked rectangle aside and focus.
The thing is, I am excited about this drawing! I’m trying new things in it! Keeping my color palette limited! Drawing little jewels and paper! There’s even a ghoulie! Alas, when I sit at my desk I just get antsy and can’t find motivation. At these times, I just need to step away and accept that I will be ready when I’m ready. I decided to turn my attention to something that felt looser and started to aimlessly sketch on my Ipad.
I don’t know if I ate a bad toaster waffle or w h a t, but my body and mind delved into some sort of fugue state and a short while later, the below drawing had manifested itself in procreate. While I don’t find a huge amount of personal satisfaction in creating digital art, I love drawing on procreate. It’s good ol’ fashioned fun, and while I’m not necessarily capable of making an end result that I like as much as my traditional work, I can’t ignore the ease and speed that it allows! In this way, it’s kind of perfect for when I’m in a bit of a slump. Technology, hey you’re ok sometimes! Mostly when you’re advancing medicine! Stick to that, please!
All that being said, I have almost nothing to say about this drawing* other than that I imagine this creature as some sort of forest guardian or protector. That is how out of control I felt making this. No thoughts, head empty. Only wolves.

This reminds me of George Rodrigue’s Loup-garou series, the Louisiana Blue Dog. Mainly with the blue fur and purple background. As always, your ability for storytelling in your work is astronomically beautiful. Big snaps.
Love it!
